Exhibition Statement
All these pieces is an exhibit of work completed or elaborated upon during my 5 month residency at spareroom. Rooted in my journey toward healing. I began collaging as a therapeutic way to sustain myself . While working through anxiety and depression, my practice gave me a way to transform my low days into something I could make, shape, and control; something that could still be beautiful even when the image as a whole is fragmented.
Collage became my method of reclaiming power. By tearing through magazines and selecting each piece I wanted to include, I gained a practical handle on my ability to choose colour, pattern, and texture with intention. With minimal judgment, I learned to work with materials before they fully resolved into a plan. Even when a piece did not initially “fit” or seemed to lack clear purpose within the composition, I had to develop trust in my own process; embracing the possibility that meaning can emerge through arrangement, and that coherence can develop from uncertainty.
This exhibit reflects the way we move through life. We’re shaped by experiences, emotions, and memories that don’t always fit neatly together. Yet when we give ourselves the time and space to slow down, those seemingly disconnected pieces can begin to form a picture that only makes sense when you step back and see it as a whole.
First Friday
A vibrant monthly open studio event held on the first Friday of every month at Spareroom Studios, dedicated to fostering community engagement and networking among local creatives. This dynamic event invites artists, art enthusiasts, and the general public to explore a variety of studios, experience live artist talks, and participate in workshops centered around different capabilities of the Risograph printmaking process. First Friday not only offers a platform for artists to showcase their work but also encourages collaboration and inspiration, making it a must-attend gathering for anyone passionate about the arts. Whether you're an emerging artist, seasoned creator, or simply curious about the local art scene, First Friday is the perfect opportunity to connect, learn, and support Barrie’s creative community.
"TWOGETHER" is a collaborative exhibition that features work by 9 artist duos. The artist pairings between established and emerging artists to create work all in support and awareness of mental health.
