Matt Ferguson

Matt’s work focuses on materiality and the relationship between form and function. By deconstructing and reconstructing components of the human and plant body, he attempts to explore what it means to exist within the physical realm and how that impacts our sense of identity.

Through these reconstructions he conveys parallels between natural and artificial elements in order to draw attention to the ways in which they are seemingly interchangeable, while often still remaining different or even wholly opposite. By altering these corporeal subjects Matt seeks to look beyond the constructed aspects of personal identity and into deeper, more universal ideas regarding what it means to exist within a human body.
